Photoshoot makeup in Tartu — makeup built for the camera
Photoshoot makeup costs €45 and takes 75 minutes. I do it inside Sära Fotostuudio at Kastani 42, the same building where the shoot happens, so you walk straight from the chair to the set. A studio strobe and a camera sensor read skin very differently from the human eye, which is why this look is built by different rules than everyday makeup.
What photoshoot makeup is
The goal is not to look good in the mirror but to look good in the file. A camera amplifies texture: a dry patch, a shiny forehead or a pale highlight in the inner corner shows up immediately on a large screen. So I work with matte and semi-matte finishes, avoid SPF bases that flare white under flash, and check every layer on a screen rather than only in ambient light.
Camera-ready does not mean heavy. Skin should still read as skin: pores visible, cheekbones sculpted with light instead of a brown stripe, lip colour exactly as strong as the frame needs. For portfolio or brand shoots I build the look around the lighting setup — a soft box and a hard strobe call for different intensity.

Who books it

How the appointment works, step by step
Before the date I ask what you are shooting, what you will wear and whether the series is colour or black and white. Black and white lives on contrast, so I define the eyes and lips more sharply there. In colour I take my cue from your wardrobe.
In the studio we start with cleansing and hydration, then base, layered coverage, brows and eyes. Around the fiftieth minute we take a phone test shot with flash and look at it on screen, and I mattify the T-zone or soften a blend if the file asks for it.
Photographer Anna Vyaznikova works in the same building, so we align lighting and makeup before the camera comes out. That is usually the detail that separates a good portrait from an average one: the makeup was made for the exact light you are about to be shot in.
You leave the chair with a small touch-up kit — blotting paper and your lip colour — so you can refresh halfway through the session.
Price and duration
Photoshoot makeup is €45 for 75 minutes. Hair styling can be added for €30, which extends the booking by 60 minutes; the calendar accounts for that automatically, so two appointments can never overlap. No deposit is required. I confirm the slot after a short exchange about your shoot time, because the makeup should be finished right before the camera rather than three hours earlier.
What is included
The price covers the pre-appointment consultation, skin prep, professional products, false lashes on request and the touch-up kit for the shoot. I use single-use applicators and wash brushes between clients, which matters in a studio running several sessions a day.
Where we are and travel
The studio is at Kastani 42, Aparaaditehas, Tartu. There is parking in front of the building and it is a ten-minute walk from the centre. Makeup and photography happen under one roof, so a finished look never has to survive wind, rain or a bus ride.
I also travel to you across Tartu, Elva and the wider Tartumaa region. On-location work adds 20% to the service price plus the taxi fare. Send the address when you book and I will calculate the surcharge before confirming.

Frequently asked questions
- How long before the shoot should makeup be finished?
- Ideally 15 to 30 minutes before the first frame. The skin has settled but the look is still completely fresh.
- Will it look too strong in real life?
- No. A camera absorbs roughly one level of intensity, so the look reads defined in the mirror rather than mask-like.
- What should I bring?
- The clothes you are shooting in, and your own lipstick if you have a favourite shade. Everything else is here.
- What about a black and white series?
- Tell me in advance. For black and white I raise contrast and definition, because colour disappears but shape remains.
- Do you do makeup for men?
- Yes. For male portraits it is light mattifying and evening out redness — visible in the file, invisible on the face.
